Privacy Policy

Last updated July 8, 2026

This policy covers the Orb website (orb-app.com), the Orb macOS app, and the Orb mobile companion app. In short: the Mac app has no backend and collects nothing about you, the mobile app reports only anonymous performance metrics and never your session content, and the website uses only privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to understand which pages people read.

The Orb Mac app

The Orb Mac app has no server of its own and no account system. It launches and manages local agent sessions on your Mac. It does not send your prompts, files, or usage anywhere, and it includes no telemetry or analytics. Your settings and sessions are stored only on your own machine. Whatever the agent CLI you run sends to its own provider is governed by that provider, not by Orb.

The Orb mobile app

The Orb mobile companion app connects to the Orb app on your Mac to show your sessions on your phone. Two things about it are worth spelling out:

  • Updates. The app checks Expo’s update service for over-the-air updates, so we can ship fixes without waiting on a full App Store release. That check sends only what is needed to serve the right update (such as the app’s runtime version and platform). It carries nothing about you or your sessions.
  • Performance metrics. The app reports anonymous performance data through EAS Observe: startup timing, a coarse device model class, and a random per-install identifier. It includes no session content, no terminal output, no prompts, and no personal identifiers.

Everything else stays between your devices. Your phone talks directly to your Mac, and terminal content never leaves that direct, end-to-end encrypted link. Apart from the update checks and anonymous metrics described above, the only other thing that transits a third party is a push notification telling you a session needs you.

The website

The website uses two privacy-first services from Vercel, our hosting provider, to understand traffic and performance:

  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and aggregate visitor trends. It uses no cookies, does not collect personally identifiable information, and does not track you across other sites. Visitor counts are derived from a hash that is rotated daily and cannot be traced back to you.
  • Vercel Speed Insights measures anonymous performance metrics (such as load and responsiveness timings) so we can keep the pages fast. It also uses no cookies and collects no personal data.

Like most web hosts, Vercel also processes standard server request data (such as IP address and browser type) to serve and secure the site. You can read more in Vercel’s privacy policy.

What we do not do

We set no advertising or tracking cookies, we run no ad networks, and we never sell or share your data. Because the analytics we use are cookieless and anonymous, the site does not need a cookie consent banner.
